Mequon, Wis – The Chinooks (7-9) managed to hang on to a one run lead to secure another crucial win against the Mallards in their quest to climb in the standings. Weather was a factor at Moonlight Graham Field as strong winds and lightning brought an early end to the evening after seven innings. Lakeshore had phenomenal pitching tonight and produced enough offensively to get the win against the Mallards.
Joe Glassey started the game on the mound for Lakeshore after arriving yesterday. The University of Illinois product went three innings, giving up three hits and striking out five. Mitch Alba (W, 1-0) helped maintain the shutout by pitching another scoreless three innings, giving up only one hit and striking out three Madison hitters while getting the win.
Garrett Martin, another recent addition from Oklahoma State, scored the lone run for Lakeshore tonight on a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Chinooks would come close to extending their lead in the 5th inning, loading up the bases with 2 outs. Matthias Haas got things going with a leadoff double to left-center. John Bay drew a walk with one out before Michael Seegers reached first on an infield single. Seegers was later called out due to interference but managed to advance both runners in the process. A Caleb Bartolero flyout to right ended the inning, but Lakeshore remained active offensively.
The Chinooks move to 7-9 on the season and have won five of their last six games to improve their record after starting 2-8. Lakeshore will travel to Green Bay for a doubleheader against the Rockers tomorrow. Their first game is scheduled for 12:05pm at Capital Credit Union Park with the second game starting at 6:35pm. The team will look to get their record above .500 for the first time this summer before they travel to Fond Du Lac on Friday.
