Wausau, WI – The Chinooks followed a two-game series against the Rafters and continued on the road for a two-game series against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. 16 hits including 3 home runs highlighted the Chinooks offensive explosion in a 13-6 win over the Woodchucks.

The Chinooks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard and batted around the lineup while exploding for 6 runs in the first inning. Cole Barr led off with a walk and a Mike Trautwein home run put the Chinooks on the board 2-0. Jake Thompson and Cameron Hart reached on singles to continue the inning and Daryl Meyers drove a double into left field that scored two making the lead 4-0. Griffin Doersching added onto the lead with another home run that scored Meyers as well.

7 of the 16 Chinooks hits were recorded in the first inning. The Chinooks jumped out to the 6-0 lead, took control of the game, and never looked back while cruising to the victory.

Following a 3 inning outing last week against Fond Du Lac featuring 5 strikeouts, Grant Hartwig continued his great pitching as he again pitched 3 innings allowing just 1 Woodchuck run and striking out 4.

The Woodchucks got their only run off Hartwig in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Kenny Rodriguez.

Lakeshore added another run in the 4th, but a Cameron Hart 3-run home run in the 6th broke the game open making the lead 10-2. The Chinooks tacked on 2 more in the 7th and one more in the 8th adding onto their lead.

Chinooks pitchers Ryan Schmit and Bailey Vuylsteke built off the Hartwig start and finished with 9 total strikeouts despite allowing 6 runs on 11 hits.

The Chinooks offense was the story of tonight’s game as they scored season-high 13 runs on 16 hits highlighted by 3 hit games by Cameron Hart and Jake Artz. The Chinooks has offense often held them back, but they look to build on this outstanding offensive outing going forward this season. This game could prove to be a stepping stone for the Chinooks as they look to move out of the last place spot in the Great Lakes West division.

The Chinooks finish off the two-game series against the Woodchucks tomorrow at 6:35 PM before heading back home to Kapco Park for another series against Wisconsin Rafters.
