Mequon, WI – After a two game sweep of the Wisconsin Woodchucks, Lakeshore returned home to Kapco Park to face off against the third place Booyah, who sit just one game ahead of the Chinooks. Lakeshore sent Grant Hartwig, who hadn’t allowed a run to the Booyah yet this season, to the mound on the one game homestand before travelling to Green Bay tomorrow.
Entering tonight’s game, Green Bay had lost 12 straight road games with their last road win on June 5th.
Griffin Doersching broke the tie in the scoreless game as the reigning College Home Run sent a solo shot over the left-center wall effectively giving the Chinooks the 1-0 lead.
Green Bay did not wait long before tying up the game as Mike Ferri led off with a single and advanced to third as Cooper Morrison sent a single between Sweeny III and Thompson into right field. A two-out double from Brady West one hopped the fence and scored two giving the Booyah a 2-1 lead.
The Booyah built on there lead in the 4th as Kreutzer, Maris, and Buchberger strung together a series of hits scoring the Green Bay’s third run of the game.
The Chinooks loaded the bases in the 4th, but failed to come up with any runs.
Green Bay loaded the bases in the 5th as they looked to build on the lead. Following a strikeout to Kreutzer, Blaise Maris sent a fly ball into deep center field that scored Jarrett Ford as he tagged up from third.
Lakeshore once again loaded the bases in the 5th with just one-out as Sweeny III came to the plate. Sweeny III battled a full count, eight pitch at-bat and drew a walk scoring Nathan Aide from third. But the Chinooks left the inning with just one run as Troy Black struck-out looking on a questionable call to end the inning.
The Chinooks had an opportunity to tie the game in the 6th as with one runner on and no out, Mike Trautwein send a hard line drive to the wall in right field where Chase Hansen jumped up and robbed Trautwein of a potential home run that would have tied the game.
Green Bay once again loaded the bases with no-outs. Following a bases loaded walk that scored a run, Blaise Maris squared to bunt and bunted it straight back to the pitcher, who threw it to Trautwein and Trautwein fired to second for a double play. Despite the bases being loaded with no-outs, the Chinooks defense held the Booyah to just one run.
The Chinooks turned their hope to the bottom of the ninth for their last chance to comeback and defeat the Booyah with Trautwein, Dunn, and Aide due up. The Chinooks went down in order and fall to the Booyah by the score of 5-2.
The Chinooks travel to Green Bay tomorrow for a 7:05 PM pitch. Green Bay wins their first road game since June 5th and snap a 12 game road losing streak.
