Fond du Lac, Wisconsin – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders potent offense showed up in a big way against the Lakeshore Chinnoks today scoring 7 of their 8 runs in the first two innings. The Chinooks fell 8-3 in the first game of the series against Fond du Lac. The Chinooks struggles continued as they weren’t able to get back in the ball game even though they had eleven hits.
It was a tough start for Caleb Strack of the Chinooks as he allowed 6 earned runs and 5 walks in only 1.1 innings pitched. His counterpart, Austin Wagner had an excellent start and was the Dock Spiders player of the game. The stat line for Wagner in today’s game was 5.2 innings pitched, 2 earned runs, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts. The Chinooks offense couldn’t figure out Wagner for the first 5 innings as they were shutout. Going through the batting order for the third time in the 6th inning, Wagner showed signs of slowing down.
The Chinooks hit four singles in the top of the 6th which helped them get their first two runs of the game. Matthew Deprey continued his hot start to the season at the plate by going 3 for 4. Deprey is hitting .500 in the first week of the season. Bryce Stober and Caden Kaiser also had multi-hit games to help the Chinooks offense. Nicholas Rector, Mitch Alba, Aiden Longwell, and Brayden Collett combined to only give up one earned run in their 6.2 innings of relief.
The Chinooks are now on a four-game losing streak as their record falls to 1-6. The Dock Spiders stay tied atop of the Great Lakes West Division with a 6-1 record. The two teams meet again tomorrow night in the final game of the series at Moonlight Graham Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
