Fond du Lac, WI – After Fond du Lac made a five-run comeback to take the lead from the Chinooks, Lakeshore held on to prevail, coming out on top 8-6 on Friday.
Following Thursday’s doubleheader against the Green Bay Rockers where they split the day, the Lakeshore Chinooks (9-10) made the trip to Fond du Lac (9-9) to take on the Dock Spiders.
The Chinooks Matthew Deprey brought in the first runs on an RBI groundout bringing in Michael Seegers who had a single to left field and Matthias Haas who was walked. The Chinooks were not done racking up the runs as they scored three more runs off a wild pitch and a Josh Johnson two-run single to left field.
Down 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning the Dock Spiders answered back to the pile of runs the Chinooks put down in the first inning. Fond du Lac took the lead of 5-4 scoring five runs on just three hits.
Tim Baird (1-0, 0.00) got the win for Lakeshore in his Chinook debut. Baird struck out four of the five batters he faced.
The Chinooks found themselves back on top in the third inning with a lead of 6-5. Caden Kaiser started the inning off with an infield single and worked his way around the bases stealing second and third. Kaiser found himself across the plate on a wild pitch to take the lead for Lakeshore.
Kaiser now leads the Northwoods League with 12 stolen bases.
Continuous wild pitches by the Dock Spiders allowed the Chinooks to add to their lead. A second past ball added a run across the plate, taking a 7-5 lead.
Fond du Lac’s bats went cold after the second inning as they were held hitless until the eighth inning. The Dock Spiders only run after the second inning was due to an RBI walk by Lakeshore’s Mitch Alba (1-0, 1.08 ERA.
Lakeshore continues to struggle with leaving runners on base as they left a total of 17 runners aboard. The Chinooks left bases loaded in the sixth, seventh and ninth inning and all on one hit.
Mitch Mueller 1 SV, 0.00 ERA) was brought in for relief for the Chinooks in the seventh inning as he got the save pitching just two innings. Mueller racked up four strikeouts allowing no runs on two hits.
In his Chinooks debut, Tony Livermore gave Lakeshore a lead of 8-6 in the eighth inning. Livermore got two hits in his debut and an RBI groundout to bring in an extra run for the Chinooks.
The Dock Spiders left the bases loaded in the eighth inning but were sat down in order in the ninth as they fell to the Chinooks with a final score of 8-6.
The Chinooks are back at home starting a four-game home stand starting off with the Dock Spiders at Moonlight Graham Field. First pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
