Mequon, Wisconsin – On a chilly Saturday night, the Lakeshore Chinooks offense was nowhere to be found. It was another tough loss after having to deal with the fallout from Friday’s night game. With a final score of 5-1, the Chinooks struggles continued as they’re now on a three-game losing streak. The offense couldn’t get much going against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders starting pitcher Kaleb Hill. Hill, a member of the Charleston Southern program, took control against the Chinooks by throwing seven shutout innings at Moonlight Graham Field.
Kaleb Hill’s first game as a member of the Dock Spiders was a memorable debut for the southpaw. Besides his seven shutout innings, Hill only gave up 6 hits, no walks, and led the Dock Spiders pitching staff with four strikeouts. He was the first Dock Spiders starting pitcher to throw seven innings so far this season. Tommy Lamb was just as impressive on the mound for the Chinooks on Saturday night with a quality start. Heading into the game, Lamb had back-to-back starts with only giving up two earned runs each. The streak continued with his best start so far this season. He pitched efficiently with 6 innings of one-run ball, and only gave up 4 hits. Lamb gets tangled with the loss but, after the quality start, Lamb’s ERA drops to 3.00.
Jackson Reid also pitched good in relief for the Chinooks only giving up one earned run through 2 innings. Aiden Longwell showed his dual-threat ability by pitching tonight in the 9th, but didn’t have a good night on the mound. The Dock Spiders were able to get three important insurance runs off Longwell. The offense was led by Kyte McDonald and Stephen Schissler. McDonald led the Dock Spiders offense with 3 RBIs and Schissler hit 2 doubles and scored 3 runs.
Garrett Martin was the only Chinooks batter with multiple hits as the offense failed to get things going until the bottom of the 9th. Martin continues his hot start at the plate with a batting average of .500 through his first six games. Martin said, “I thought I was seeing it well just getting ready to hit a fastball. Their guy did a phenomenal job mixing speeds and was just trying to get a good swing on it.”
When asked about the game tonight Chinooks Manager Travis Akre talked about how the offense couldn’t get the timely hits. “We lacked the big hit today. All of our momentum in inning started with two outs and we couldn’t get a hit after that.” Akre hopes to see the offense get back on track.
The Chinooks losing streak sends them down to 8-12 for the season. They also drop to 5th in the Great Lakes West division. The Dock Spiders stay in 2nd place with a 10-8 record but are 6 games back of first place. The Chinooks move on to play a two-game series against the Wausau Woodchucks tomorrow afternoon at Moonlight Graham Field. First pitch is set for 1:35pm.
