Big 3rd for Bombers Contributes to 5-2 Win over Chinooks

With special guest Bruce Froemming in attendance, the Lakeshore Chinooks took on the Battle Creek Bombers on Wednesday night at Kapco Park. The Chinooks scored first, but the Bombers put together a four run 3rd inning and they did not look back tacking on one more run in the 4th inning. The Bombers took the game 5-2.

Once again, Chris Manning (Valparaiso) led off the game with a walk and stolen base putting him in scoring position in the bottom of the 1st inning. After two outs, Ryan Krill (MSU) knocked in Manning for the first run of the game on a single to right field. The Chinooks took an early 1-0 lead after the 1st inning.

The Bombers struck back in the top of the 3rd inning. After a single, balk, and sacrifice bunt, the Bombers knocked in the tying run on a sacrifice groundout. With two outs in the inning the Bombers did not stop the scoring, launching an RBI double, RBI triple and RBI double pushing the lead to 4-1.

In the top of the 4th inning the Bombers knocked in another run on another RBI double making the score to 5-1.

Brant Valach (Eastern Illinois) led off the bottom of the 5th inning with a double for the Chinooks. After advancing to 3rd on a fielder’s choice, Harrison Bader (Florida) knocked in Valach on an infield single. They inched closer but the scoring stopped as the Chinooks fell 5-2.

Chinooks starter Tyler Thicke (UW-Milwaukee) had a good start going until the 3rd inning. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits and recording 3 strikeouts. The relief pitchers came in and shut down the Bombers allowing one run, but the Chinooks could not produce enough runs to regain the lead.

The Chinooks (14-8) look to bounce back against the Bombers as they finish a two game set Thursday, June 20th at 6:35 PM. Fans in attendance will receive Sunglasses and can enjoy Pepsi Family Night!
