After an exciting and successful season, the Lakeshore Chinooks were ranked 21st on the Perfect Game Top 50 Summer Collegiate Teams for 2013.
Perfect Game is the largest scouting organization in the United States who devoted their resources and time to helping high school players and college players make it to the next level. The organization sets up showcases and tournaments throughout the year in which players can show off their talent in front of a variety of scouts. Showcases are heavily attended by college coaches and scouts as well as Major League Baseball scouts as they get their first look at upcoming talent from across the nation.
The Chinooks 45-28 record and 2nd half division title earned them the honor of being on Perfect Game’s Top 50 Summer Collegiate Teams list. Ahead of the Chinooks were the Waterloo Bucks, who were ranked number 4, and the 2013 Northwoods League Champions, Madison Mallards, were ranked number 10. Also making the list from the Northwoods League were the Lacrosse Loggers (#31) and the Duluth Huskies (#39).
Coming in at number one on the list was the Brazos Valley Bombers who were crowned champions of the Texas Collegiate League with a record of 45-15. The top ranked league in the nation, the Cape Cod league, had three teams in the top ten, the Cotuit Kettleers, Chatham Anglers, and Falmouth Commodores. Also rounding out the top ten was the Corvallis Knights(West Coast League), Edenton Steamers(Coastal Plain League), Alaska Goldpanners(Alaska League), and the Amsterdam Mohawks(Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League).
The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate League in North America. The 2013 season marked the 20th season of Northwoods League baseball. 112 former players have gone on to play Major League baseball. Notable alumni of the league include Curtis Granderson (Yankees), Chris Sale (White Sox), Max Scherzer (Tigers), Josh Willingham (Twins) and Jordan Zimmermann (Nationals).
