Four walks and a hit gave the Chinooks the lead in the eighth. Lakeshore swept Green Bay and won 5-4 on Monday.
Memphis Tiger Carter White went 2-2 in the game with a homer, double and drew a walk. Zack Bowers (Georgia) went 2-4 in the game with two singles, an RBI and scored a run.
“I was ahead in the count, 2-0, and got a great read on those two pitches,” White said. “I go out every day and do my best to contribute and tonight it paid off with the home run.”
The Bullfrogs got on the board in the second. Left fielder Ryan Howell had a base hit off Will Headean (Illinois State). He scored on a Dean Long single.
White responded with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning.
The Chinooks took a 3-1 lead in the third. Center fielder Luke Meeteer (UW-Milwaukee) led off with a double to right-center field. He scored on a triple by Jake Noll (Florida Gulf Coast). Bowers (Georgia) also had an RBI single in the inning.
In the seventh, Hunter Devall (LSU) gave up a two-run homer to Ryan Koziol. The game was tied at three runs.
Bowers led off the eighth with a single. Green Bay reliever Sam Brunner intentionally walked pinch-hitter Brett Siddall (Canisius). Bowers scored a walk issued to right fielder Matt Honchel (Miami-OH). Siddall also came across on a base on balls to Sawyer Polen (Kent State). Lakeshore led 5-3.
Chinooks closer Andrew Elliott (Wright State) pitched one and one-third innings. The righty got his first win of the season. In the ninth, Ivan Vieitez had a pinch-hit single off Elliott. He scored on a groundout by Johnny Bekakis, which made it 5-4 Chinooks.
Headean tossed five solid innings in a no-decision. He surrendered one run off four hits and struck out four.
The right-hander Brunner (0-1) took the loss. In 14 previous appearances, he had not given up an earned run. He gave up two runs off one hit and four walks.
The Chinooks will play the Battle Creek Bombers on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games will begin at 6:35 p.m. They will also face the La Crosse Loggers on Thursday (6:35 p.m.) and Friday (7:05 p.m.). The team will travel to Green Bay on Saturday and Sunday to take on the Bullfrogs at Joannes Stadium.
