Behind the bats of Blake Butler (College of Charleston) and Sawyer Polen (Kent State), Lakeshore came away with a 13-3 victory over Madison.

Butler went 3-4 with two singles, a homer and scored three runs. He also drove in two runs

“We did have a nice little break there, so everyone was a little bit fresher tonight,” Butler said. “You just go out and play the best you can every night…I was lucky to go out and see the ball well, tonight was a good night.”

Polen also had a great night at the plate. He went 3-5 with 3 RBI and scored twice. For his performance, he was named the Northwoods League Player of the Night on July 24.

Right fielder Brett Siddall (Canisius) went 2-4, scored a run and also drove in three runs.

Chinooks starting pitcher James Teague (Arkansas) picked up his third win of the season. In five innings, he surrendered two runs off four hits.

In the first, the Chinooks took a 1-0 lead. Butler and Jake Noll (Florida Gulf Coast) drew consecutive walks by Mallards starter Rob McDonnell. Butler scored on a single by Brant Valach (Eastern Illinois).

Lakeshore put three runs on the board in the second. First baseman Ryan Krill (Michigan State) led off with a walk. Luke Meeteer (UW-Milwaukee) hit a single. The second-year Chinooks shortstop Polen drove the pair in with a two-RBI double.

Siddall also had a sacrifice fly to center in the inning. The Chinooks had a 4-0 advantage over the Mallards.

Madison scored one run in the third. Second baseman Tony Butler drew a walk by Teague. He scored on a fielder’s choice by Tyler Allen.

In the fourth, the Mallards scored again. Teague issued a walk to Connor Marabell, who scored on a base hit by Matt Thaiss. Madison trailed 4-2.

The Chinooks responded in the bottom of the inning. Polen hit a single off reliever Nathan Hoffmann. He scored on a Brett Siddall RBI single.

Blake Butler hit a solo homer off righty Connor Ryan in the sixth. The second baseman Noll then got his second hit of the game. Siddall got another base hit and drove in his third run of the game. Brant Valach advanced to first on error by the pitcher. Michael Morman then singled off Ryan and Siddall came home.

With no outs, right-hander Charlie Naso replaced Ryan. Valach scored on a wild pitch. The Chinooks led 9-2.

Morman lead off the eighth with a triple to center field. He scored on an RBI single by Ryan Krill. Luke Meeteer drew a walk by Chris Oakley. Krill then came home on Sawyer Polen’s second double of the game.

Blake Butler had an RBI single in the game. Polen also scored on a Jake Noll sac fly to center. Lakeshore took a 13-3 lead.

Center fielder Alex Bacon hit a single off Kyle Wood (Purdue) in the ninth. He came across on a Pete Alonso putout.

Louisiana State Tiger Hunter Devall also tossed three shutout innings in relief of Teague.

The lefty McDonnell (5-3) suffered the loss for the Mallards. In only two innings, he gave up four runs off four hits and three walks.

The Chinooks will start a six-game road trip tomorrow, July 25. They play at Madison on Friday. They will then travel to Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday and Sunday.

Lakeshore will also take on the MoonDogs in Mankato on Monday and Tuesday. Finally, they will play a split-location doubleheader with the Kenosha Kingfish on July 30.
