Lakeshore began their four-game road trip with a loss to Wisconsin Rapids and fell 6-1. The Chinooks once again could not find an answer for the Rafters’ Jake Cage.

The right-hander Cage.tossed eight strong innings. He gave up one run off nine hits.

Wisconsin Rapids took a 3-0 lead in the third. With one away, Luke Yapp and Zack Domingues hit consecutive singles. The pair scored on a double by center fielder Kirby McGuire.

In the fourth, William Elliott advanced on a single off reliever Austin Jones (UW-Whitewater). He scored on an error by first baseman Michael Morman (Richmond). The Rafters led 4-0.

The Chinooks scored one in the eighth. Ryan Larson (Florida) hit a leadoff double off Cage. Second baseman Mitch Ghelfi (UW-Milwaukee) knocked him in with a single.

First baseman Nick Unes singled to start the bottom half of the eighth. Tyler Servais moved to first on a fielder’s choice. Domingues got another base hit off of Ryan Radue (Connecticut) and drove both Unes and Servais home.

Nolan Blackwood threw a scoreless ninth for the Rapids and struck out two as well.

Lakeshore righty Joe Pavlovich (UW-Oshkosh) took the loss and moved to 5-3. In three innings, he surrendered three runs off five hits and struck out four.

The Chinooks and Rafters will meet again on Friday, August 8 at 7:05 p.m. Lefty Kevin Woekbe (Concordia-St. Paul) will start for the Chinooks. The team travels to La Crosse on Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10.

The team will begin the 2014 Northwoods League Playoffs on Monday, August 11. Game location and time are to be determined.
