Rockford, IL – The Lakeshore Chinooks got on the road to take on the Rockford Rivets in what was a competitive, but low scoring game that resulted in 1-0 Chinooks win.

The Chinooks would strike first in the top of the second on Rivets righty pitcher Anthony Dahl (Arkansas) who came in with a 1.45 ERA during his 31 innings of work. Owen Miller (Illinois State) stepped up to the plate and roped a one out double and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, Kevin Riley (Chaffey CC) reached first after an error by the Rivets shortstop that allowed Miller to score and give the Chinooks a 1-0 lead.

Taking the mound for the Chinooks was Marshall Kasowski (Houston) who has been solid all year and came in with a 1.45 ERA and 37 strikeouts during 33.1 innings pitched. Coming into the game, Kasowski was looking to break the Chinooks strikeout record which was held by Joe Greenfield who racked up 113. Kasowski came into the game with 111 and broke the record in the bottom of the third when he reached his 114th strikeout. On the night, Kasowski would go an impressive five innings, giving up three hits, no runs and tallied up nine strikeouts.

Replacing Kasowski on the mound was Nick Horvath (Florida) who made his sixth appearance for the Chinooks. Horvath would do his job holding the Rivets scoreless through his three innings of work while giving up no hits.

After going seven innings for the Rivets, Dahl was taken out after giving up only one run off of eight hits. Quinton Forrester (Crowley) and Zach Olszewski (Bethune-Cookman University) both made appearances from the Rivets bullpen and held the Chinooks scoreless for the rest of the evening.

The Chinooks made a call to the bullpen in the bottom of the ninth and brought in Jack Landwehr (Illinois State) who faced the heart of the Rivets order. Landwehr got out of the inning clean and helped secure the the Chinooks a 1-0 win.

The Chinooks defense only gave up three hits to the Rivets and held them hitless after three innings. Miller, Riley, and Zac Taylor (Houston) all went 2-4 at the plate while Kasowski earned the win and Landwehr earned the save.

The Chinooks return home to take on the Rockford Rivets Wednesday night at 6:35.
