Mequon, WI- The Lakeshore Chinooks (9-12) beat the Kenosha Kingfish, 4-3, in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.

The Chinooks struck first in the bottom of the second inning, thanks to an RBI double from Caleb Dean (Lamar). TJ Raguse (Baylor) blooped a one-out single into center field, later coming around to score on the Dean double, giving the Chinooks the early 1-0 lead.

After 4 innings had been completed, the rain showed up and caused a lengthy rain delay. The game was delayed nearly 2 hours, causing both starting pitchers to be replaced by the bullpen. After much waiting, the game resumed, with Alec Marsh (Arizona State) coming out of the bullpen to replace Chinooks’ starter, Tyler Jandron (Northwood).

The game resumed in the top of the 5^th with a leadoff double down the right field line coming off the bat of Kenosha’s Mike Madej. Madej would later score on an RBI groundout from Jesse Wilkening, tying the game at 1. After a Tyler Paulsen single, Chris Botsoe popped a ball up to Lakeshore second baseman, Matthew Mika (Central Florida), but the sun blinded Mika and caused the ball to drop. The error allowed Paulsen to score, giving Kenosha the 2-1 lead.

The Chinooks would take back the lead, however, in the bottom half of the 5^th inning. Drake Lubin (Eastern Michigan) led off the inning with a walk and would later come around to score on a Rylan Thomas (Central Florida) RBI single, tying the game at 2. Jacob Richardson (Southern Arkansas) blooped a ball into shallow right field that was placed perfectly, allowing Matthew Mika to score, giving the Chinooks the 3-2 advantage.

In the top of the 6^th, Derek Bangert led off the inning for the Kingfish with a double and would later come around to score on a Mike Madej sacrifice fly. This run tied the game once again, this time at 3.

The Chinooks would take the lead back in the bottom of the 8^th, thanks to a Jack Dunn (Northwestern) leadoff triple to deep right field. Drake Lubin didn’t let this golden opportunity go by, as he singled in Dunn from 3^rd and gave Lakeshore the 4-3 lead.

Nick Campe (Olivet Nazarene) came in for the Chinooks in the top of the 9^th to try to close out the game for Lakeshore and secure a 4-3 victory. Campe hit the first batter he faced in the inning, Ben Troike, then got Cameron Comer to fly out to center field, before being replaced by lefty Marshall Oetting (Concordia-Ann Arbor). Oetting struck out the first batter he faced, Jack Yalowitz, and later got Chris Botsoe to fly out to center field, securing the Chinooks’ 4-3 victory over the Kingfish.

The Lakeshore Chinooks (9-12) head to Kenosha later tonight to take on the Kingfish in the second game of the day-night doubleheader, as Sam Lund and the Chinooks look to sweep the doubleheader.
