A look at how Lakeshore Chinook alumni performed throughout baseball in 2017!

Mitch Ghelfi – Lakeshore Chinooks 2014

Milwaukee Brewers

Former UW-Milwaukee catcher Mitch Ghelfi made significant progress in the the revamped Milwaukee Brewers farm system in 2015 and 2016, advancing as high as Advanced A Brevard County. After making his debut with the major league squad in the team’s 2017 Spring training camp, Ghelfi was poised for a pivotal season and got off to a hot start for Milwaukee’s new Advanced A team, the Carolina Mudcats. Ghelfi hit .304 in 17 games before a thumb injury landed him on the DL for most of the summer.  Late in the summer, Ghelfi was reassigned to a familiar team, the Class A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, where he had played 73 games in 2016. While finding his way back from the injury, the Brewers’ 28th Round selection hit just .211 in 17 games to close out the season, but will look to fully recover this off season and continue his ascent through the organization.

Including a week one promotion to Advanced A Lake Elsinore, the former Illinois State Redbird posted a 4.38 ERA in 32 appearances with 91 strikeouts against just 30 walks. While his 1-6 record may not indicate progress, Headean has posted solid numbers in his career as a both a starter and bullpen arm with a 4.20 career ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio of 219 K’s and 70 walks. Drafted in the 13th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Headean will look to take another step in 2018.

Siddall was promoted to the Advanced A Stockton Ports for 2017 and turned in his best season thus far as he hit .300 and belted 21 home runs and drove in 68 runs. With an OPS of .861 and slugging percentage of .495, the young Canadian has emerged as an up and coming prospect for the A’s after being selected as a California League All-Star and an Organization All-Star in the Oakland system. Ports manager Rick Magnante said about Siddall “Once he was able to hone in on pitches ahead or even in the count that he could drive, he showed some production.
