Mequon, WI – Kevin Tibor continued his dominance over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, throwing a complete game and allowing no runs. The Chinooks picked up their sixth consecutive victory to start the second half and remain one of the hottest teams in the Northwoods League.
Tibor silenced the Rafters for the third time this season, picking up his fourth win in the process. He allowed only five and walked none, and added four strikeouts to his sterling performance in which he faced only three more than the minimum. Any Rafters attempt to rally was stifled by Tibor, with some help from the Chinooks defense. Two innings were ended via the double play, and a couple of diving plays saved some hits.
In three starts against the Rafters, Tibor has gone 3-0 and only allowed one run over 23 and 1/3 innings. That comes out to a 0.39 ERA. Tibor’s play throughout the season has shown him to be one of the best pitchers in the Northwoods League, and he’ll continue to be a big part of the Chinooks rotation as the season continues.
The Chinooks offense was able to pitch in four runs throughout the night to help Tibor pick up the win. Lakeshore scored first in the opening inning after an error put runners on the corners with nobody out. After a walk to Dallas Beaver to load the bases, Griffin Dey grounded into a double play, but Jack Dunn was able to score from third base.
Two errors in the fourth inning put Chinooks on first and second with no one out again. After Turner Buis grounded into another double play, Dey was able to score on a passed ball by catcher Jake Dunham to extend the lead to 2-0. The lead grew to 3-0 after Dunn scored Cole Turney with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. The last run came in the eighth inning on a Ronnie Sweeny RBI single, scoring Dey for the second time.
The damage could’ve been greater for the Chinooks offense but the Rafters were able to end some chances with double plays and timely strikeouts. Lakeshore stranded seven runners on base, and failed to score outside of help from the Rafters defense that helped with four errors.
The Chinooks will head to the road for the first time since last Thursday, with a date against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders. Jacob Lindemann will get the ball for the Chinooks, as they look to pick up their seventh win in a row. The first pitch tomorrow evening will be at 6:35 PM.
