Green Bay, WI- The Chinooks traveled to Green Bay to take on the Booyah for the first time this year. It is the start of a two game set before the Chinooks head to take on the reigning Northwoods League Champions, Fond Du Lac Doc Spiders. That will be a double header on Tuesday, June 11th.
It would be a quick first three innings as both pitchers would work quickly. Mitchell DeCovich, the Chinooks stating pitcher, would only one hit in his first inning of work. Moving to the second, Griffin Doersching would reach base by walking. But that would be all. DeCovich would allow another hit, this time a double, but retire the next three batters.
Scoring started in the bottom of the fourth inning when Booyah outfielder, Joe Mason, hit a solo home run. That would be all for the Booyah in the fourth as the next three batters would be retired.
The Chinooks would threaten in the following inning after two of the first three batters were able to draw walks and apply the pressure to Booyah starting pitcher, Zach Chappell. After a strikeout, Chinooks catcher Trent Bauer would single, and it would bring in the tying run from second. The Booyah would be retired in their half of the inning by hitting into a 3-6-3 double play.
Th Chinooks would cross the plate again as Trenton Wallace would drive in Dalton Wingo. Lakeshore now lead the game 2-1. Green Bay would threaten by having a back-to-back hits. Green Bay would tie the game, but the Chinooks would escape with only one run being scored.
The next three innings would prove to be uneventful and the Chinooks would be playing in their first extra inning game of the season. In the Northwoods League, teams start with a runner on second to help the pace of play. The Chinooks would drive in two runs in the top of the tenth.
The Booyah would tie the game on a two-run home run Jacob Buchberger and the game would move to the 11th inning.
Trenton Wallace would be the next batter for Chinooks, and he would drive in the runner that had started on second base. That would be the only run the Chinooks score and they would head to the bottom of the 11th with the lead.
With one out, a wild pitch was thrown and now the Booyah had a runner 90 feet away from scoring. Green Bay could not muster anything else. A strikeout and a fly out would end the game and the Chinooks would move to 4-9.
The Chinooks will go for the sweep tomorrow. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
