The Madison Mallards 2002 Player Appearance Series will open up with an appearance by Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins at the Mallards first ever exhibition game on Wed. June 5th at 6:05. Long time Brewer second baseman Jim Gantner will help celebrate Opening Day with the Mallards on Sat. June 8th at 7:05. Next in the series will be former San Diego Padres slugger Nate Colbert who will be at ?The Duck Pond? on Sat. & Sun. the 15th (7:05) & 16th (6:05) of June. All players will be available for autographs both before & during the game .
Fergie Jenkins pitched most of his career with the Chicago Cubs, but also spent time with Philadelphia, Texas, & Boston during his 19 year career. Jenkins was also a member of the Harlem Globetrotters for three years (?67-?69) A 1991 inductee into Cooperstown, Jenkins won the Cy Young in 1971, and won over 20 games in six consecutive seasons (67-72.)

Jim Gantner, born & raised in Wisconsin, will take part in some coaching with the team prior to the opener & various other games throughout the summer. Gantner will actually suite up for part of the game & take over 1st base coaching duties for the Mallards!

Nate Colbert, who hit 173 career home runs, spent the best years of his career as a slugging first baseman for the San Diego Padres from 1969 to 1974. Colbert, who now lives in Las Vegas, is very active as a scout & as a player representative & is very excited to get the opportunity to meet & scout the young talented players on the Mallards 2002 squad.
