The Madison Mallards have just signed Madison Area Technical College freshman Lucas Koenig. Koenig had a fabulous freshman season at MATC, where he hit .340 and led the Wolfpack with a .492 on-base percentage, 33 walks and 9 hit by pitches. He also scored 39 runs and hit 12 doubles, which were second on the team. Koenig came to MATC after an excellent high school career while at Sauk Prairie high school. He was a three-sport letter winner (baseball, basketball, football) and was a three-year all-conference baseball selection. During his senior season, he was an all-district selection and also was named to second team all-state. Showing his versatility, Koenig threw a no-hitter in high school in Sauk Prairie?s sectional semifinal game. For all his ability, Koenig is only 18 years old. He makes up for it however with his impressive size, 6?3 and a solid 205 pounds. He will primarily play catcher but can play the infield as well.
