Middle Tennessee State catcher Troy Harp and Baylor pitcher/catcher Tyler Bullock have signed to play for the Madison Mallards.
Harp, a 6?0?, 190 lb. junior, is hitting .244 for the Blue Raiders. Voted the 2003 Sun Belt Conference pre-season defensive catcher of the year by Baseball America, Harp has only one error in 32 games this season. The Louisville, Ky. native was a three-time All-State and All-Region selection in high school. Mallards new Head Coach Darrell Handelsman is excited to have Harp behind the plate.
?In this league it is a bonus to have an experienced catcher, like Troy, who can call a game and handle a pitching staff,? Handelsman said.
Bullock is a two-way player originally from Fort Worth, Texas. The 6?2?, 220-pounder has a 5.87 earned run average in 14 appearances with the Bears. Bullock has 22 strikeouts and only six walks in 15.1 innings of work. During the summer of 2002 Bullock played for the U.S. Junior National Team that took the Bronze Medal at the 2002 IBAF World Championships. He was second on the team with a 1.111 slugging percentage. Bullock hit three home runs on his way to a .444 average. On the mound, he picked up a save and struck out six in three innings of work.
