THUNDER BAY, Ontario — Brian Kroll and Jon Olson combined on a three-hitter as the Madison Mallards defeated Thunder Bay 5-1 Sunday in a Northwoods League amateur baseball game.
Madison’s offense got a boost from Kyle Yates, Mike Rohde and Josh Wettlaufer, who each had two hits and drove in a run.
Kroll allowed just one hit in seven innings, yielding only a double to Thunder Bay’s Quinn Ciccarelli. Kroll had eight strikeouts and walked none.
Olson came on to pitch two innings of scoreless relief. He gave up two hits.
The Mallards (3-3) had 10 hits. They scored twice in the second inning and three more runs in the third.
Madison opens a two-game series tonight at Duluth before playing its first game at home Wednesday night against St. Cloud.
