MADISON, WI. — The Madison Mallards’ offense was rolling along Thursday night, but it stalled on the basepaths in a 10-4 Northwoods League loss to Alexandria at Warner Park.
The Beetles outhit the Mallards 13-11 as Madison (11-6) stranded eight despite hitting three doubles and two triples in the opener of a five-game homestand.
Alexandria (9-8) took a 4-3 lead after three innings, then pulled away with six runs to the Mallards’ one the rest of the way.
The pitching loss went to right-handed starter Tyler Jones (0-1), a Notre Dame sophomore who allowed four hits, four runs and three walks in 2 and two-third innings.
Mallards relievers also struggled, giving up nine hits and walking five.
Madison’s offense was paced by Mike Rozema, Francois Larmore, Doug Beck and Mike Rohde, who each had two hits.
The two teams play each other again tonight at Warner Park (7:05).
