THE DUCK POND – The Madison Mallards clinched a playoff berth for the first time in their three-year history Thursday night.

With the game tied at 5 after six innings, the Mallards erupted for five runs in the seventh and went on to beat the Wisconsin Woodchucks 10-6 in a Northwoods League game in front of 5,175 at Warner Park.

Marshall junior Francois Larmore and Texas Tech junior Doug Beck both had a double and three RBIs as Madison (21-10) wrapped up the first-half South Division title.

Larmore had three hits, while Beck, Mike Rozema and James Boone added two each to the Mallards’ 11-hit attack.

Madison, which has won eight of its past nine games, will face the Woodchucks (17-13) today in Wausau to complete the first half.

Tickets for the divisional playoffs, which are Aug. 10 to 12, will go on sale July 21.
