WAUSAU – With the first-half championship of the Northwoods League South Division already wrapped up, the Madison Mallards could have relaxed in Friday’s first-half finale against the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
They didn’t.
The Mallards closed out the first half on a three-game winning streak, beating Wisconsin for the second straight night with a 7-3 decision at Athletic Park in Wausau.
Mike Rohde homered in the second inning, then reached on a bases-loaded error that scored two more runs in the third as the Mallards erased a 3-0 deficit. Madison added three more runs in the fourth.
