ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Rochester Honkers displayed perfect timing Wednesday night to defeat the Madison Mallards 1-0 in a rain-shortened Northwoods League amateur baseball game at Mayo Field.
The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, just after the Honkers (23-13) had scored an unearned run. Rochester had one runner on base when it ended.
Dave O’Hagan (1-1) gave up just one hit, but walked five, to earn the victory for the Honkers.
Jake Hansen took the loss for Madison (24-13). He allowed only two hits and a walk in 4 innings.
The Mallards’ lone hit was by catcher Javier Sanchez.
Madison and the Honkers are scheduled to face off again tonight at Rochester before the Mallards return home to play La Crosse Friday and Saturday (7:05 p.m. starts).
