THE DUCK POND – Jake Hansen and the Madison Mallards didn’t spend a lot of time Thursday night at Warner Park.

Hansen gave up one run in 7 2/3 innings, and the Mallards scored twice in the sixth inning to beat the Waterloo Bucks 2-1 in a Northwoods League game in front of 4,562 spectators.

Hansen (4-1) allowed six hits, struck out five and walked two as Madison (29-18 overall, 7-8 second half) snapped a two-game losing streak by winning a game that took just two hours and twenty-eight minutes to complete.

D.J. Roshone relieved Hansen and struck out two and gave up one hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his fifth save of the season for Madison.

Kyle Yates gave the Mallards a 1-0 lead in the sixth, driving in Josh Wettlaufer with a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Mike Rozema scored on a groundout by former Madison West athlete David Hrncirik to make it 2-0.

Brent Miller’s RBI in the eighth brought the last-place Bucks (14-33, 4-11) within a run, but they couldn’t get the equalizer as they lost for the ninth time in their last eleven games.
