THE DUCK POND – Jon Olson pitched eight shutout innings to lead the Madison Mallards past the Waterloo Bucks 5-0 in a Northwoods League amateur baseball game Monday night at Warner Park.

A crowd of 6,085 was on hand — the second largest in team and league history.

Olson struck out five and walked just one to improve to 2-3 on the season. Chris Maliszewski pitched a scoreless ninth for the Mallards (31-20 overall, 9-10 second half), who topped the 100,000 mark for season attendance.

Waterloo fell to 15-36, 9-14.

Tyler Bullock led the Madison offense with two RBIs.

The Mallards hit the road for two games at Alexandria before returning home for a four-game homestand starting Thursday.
