ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — Pitcher Kyle Yates handled the pressure and came up big when he needed to Tuesday night for the Mallards.
The closer and Texas recruit struck out Dan Mocny with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to help Madison clinch a 4-3 win over the Alexandira Beetles in a Northwoods League game at Knute Nelson Park.
Yates, who started the game in right field, also had an RBI single in a three-run fourth inning for the Mallards (32-20, 10-10 second half).
Yates gave up an unearned run to the Beetles (25-27, 11-9) in the ninth, but he hung on to earn his seventh save.
