MANKATO, Minn. – Corey Cabral, Chris Maliszewski and John Flood combined on the Madison Mallards’ seventh shutout of the year, a 1-0 win over the Mankato Moon Dogs in a Northwoods League game in front of 934 fans Monday night at Franklin Rogers Park.
Joe Thaman drove in the lone run in the last inning of the seven-inning game for the Mallards (34-25 overall, 12-15 second half), who earlier lost to Mankato 4-2 in the completion of a game suspended by rain on July 14.
Flood entered the game with two outs and runners at second and third in the seventh and struck out Chris Baso to seal the victory and pick up his first save of the season.
In the first game, Andy Moll’s two-run home run in the seventh snapped a 2-2 tie and gave the Moon Dogs (27-32, 12-15) the victory.
Wisconsin clinched the South Division second-half title, and the best-of-three divisional playoff series between the Woodchucks and first-half champion Madison will begin Sunday in Wausau.
