ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Madison Mallards have been on a roll heading into the Northwoods League playoffs, but Friday that momentum skidded to a stop.

Wes Long’s three-run double in the eighth inning off Mallards reliever D.J. Roshone handed the St. Cloud River Bats a 4-3 victory before 1,603 fans at Dick Putz Field.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Madison (37-26 overall, 15-16 second half) heading into tonight’s regular-season finale at North Division leader St. Cloud (37-25, 19-12). A best-of-three South Division playoff series starts Sunday in Wausau against the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

The Mallards had taken a 3-1 lead on a two-run double by Tyler Bullock in the third inning and a first-inning RBI single by Kyle Yates.

Tyler Bullock, Josh Wettlaufer and Francois Larmore each had two hits for the Mallards.
