The past week proved to be successful for several players that have been signed to play for the Madison Mallards this upcoming summer.

On Saturday, University of Illinois-Chicago pitcher Ryan Zink improved his record to 5-2 on the season with a 3-0 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Madison native allowed seven hits and struck out five batters in his third complete game of the season. Zink has a team leading 2.11 earned run average with 51 strikeouts and eight walks.

In addition to Zink, returning Mallard Jake Eiler earned his sixth victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon. The win improved the St. Scholastica junior?s record to a perfect 6-0 on the season.

Also finding successes over the past week were University of Illinois? Chad Frk and Xavier University?s Jay Johnson.

Frk, a three year veteran of the Northwoods League, had a pair of three hit days over the weekend. On Friday, Frk went three for four with an RBI and a run scored in a 6-3 loss to Michigan. Saturday afternoon Frk went three for four again in a 5-4 victory against Michigan.

Making the most recent headlines however was Xavier?s Jay Johnson. Sunday afternoon Johnson provided late inning heroics by hitting the eventual game winning home run in the top of the seventh inning to beat Duquesne 7-6. Johnson was three for four on the day including his sixth home run of the year, two runs scored and an RBI.

The Mallards begin action in Madison on June 9th at 7:05 PM against the Mankato MoonDogs. Individual game tickets go on sale May 1st. Tickets will be available at The Duck Pond and online at mallardsbaseball.com.
