Two pitchers signed to play with the 2004 Madison Mallards picked up victories over the weekend. Ryan Zink and Ricky Bauer earned their team leading seventh and eighth wins respectively.

On Friday, University of Hawaii right-hander Ricky Bauer struck out three batters and gave up four earned runs in a 7-5 defeat of third ranked Rice. The victory lowered Bauer?s ERA to 2.92 and improved his record to eight and two. This season Bauer has struck out 62 batters while walking only nine in 95.2 innings of work.

In addition to Bauer, Madison native Ryan Zink helped defeat Butler 9-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Illinois-Chicago freshman threw a complete-game, five-hitter with eight strikeouts to improve his record to seven and three. The complete-game was Zink’s fifth of the season. Along with his team high seven wins, Zink also boasts a team low 2.16 ERA. In his first collegiate season, the 2003 Madison Lafollette graduate has struck out 78 batters while surrendering only 12 walks in 79.1 innings of work.

The Mallards begin the 2004 season on June 2nd against the Wisconsin Woodchucks in Wausau. The home portion of the season starts on June 9th at 7:05 PM against the Mankato MoonDogs. Tickets are now available at The Duck Pond and online at mallardsbaseball.com.
