The Madison Mallards have made their final roster alterations just days before the opening of the 2004 Northwoods League season. The Mallards have signed pitchers Shaun Corning and John Thies as the last two additions to the 2004 roster.

Corning comes to the Mallards after playing for the Mankato MoonDogs in the NWL in 2003. The Portage, Wis. native recently completed his sophomore season at MATC. He was 4-5 with a 3.45 ERA this season. The 6?1? left-hander struck out 65 batters in 54 innings of work.

Thies will be joining Corning on the Mallards pitching staff. The 6?2?, 215-pounder recently completed his freshman season at St. Louis Community College-Meramec. The left-hander is originally from Cape Girardeu, Mo. This will be his first-season competing in the NWL.

The Mallards have 27 players signed for the 2004 season. The team will have its final pre-season practice tomorrow afternoon before the 2004 season opener Wednesday, June 2nd against the Wisconsin Woodchucks in Wausau.
