Ricky Bauer tossed a complete game, his second of the season, to earn his first victory Saturday as the Mallards downed the visiting Alexandria Beetles, 7-3 in front of 5,721 fans. Bauer surrendered just 3 runs against the Beetles, who came into Warner Park in last place in the North Division, standing 6-10, and losers of their last six games.

The Mallards made sure that losing streak continued. Madison put up seven runs on 12 hits, with some help from suspect defense on the Beetles behalf. Mallards center fielder Greg Thomson made it all the way around the bases to score after laying down a bunt, after Beetles catcher Baron Frost overthrew first base and into right field. Thompson scored on the error before the Beetles right fielder Bryan Mitzel could make a play.

Ryan Rogowski went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple to get things started for the Mallards in a 3-run first inning. Newly acquired utility player Thomas Berkery had a strong outing, also going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Chad Frk became the all-time NWL leader in games played, eclipsing the 186 game mark at tonight?s contest.

Bauer did not give up a run until the sixth inning, when the Mallards already held a commanding 5-0 lead. The Mallards added two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth, and Bauer remained in complete command, scattering eight hits to finish the job.

The Mallards (8-8) look to get over the hump and sweep the reeling Beetles (6-11) tomorrow at the Duck Pond. Game time is 3:05 p.m. Tickets for all Mallards games are available at the ticket office, located at 2920 N. Sherman Ave., and online at www.mallardsbaseball.com.
