One day removed from a 7-3 victory against Alexandria, the Mallards continued their exceptional play at home, cruising to a 10-0 win over the Beetles Sunday afternoon. Jake Eiler pitched a complete game in front of 5,665 fans, throwing 63 of 83 pitches for strikes, while limiting the Beetles to six hits.

Just as they did yesterday, the Mallards jumped to a big lead, got a big-time performance from their starting pitcher, played sound defense, and added a couple more runs later in the game to seal the deal. A scoreless game through three innings, the Mallards came up with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mallards bats continued to click from there, as they amassed five more runs in the final four innings, totaling 17 hits on the night.

Every Mallards starter had at least one hit. Doug Beck had a brilliant night from the plate, going 4-for-5 with 3 RBI. Jay Johnson was a perfect 3-for-3, and Chad Frk went 2-for-3.

Although Eiler (2-1) struck out just two batters in nine innings of work, his ability to throw strikes consistently all afternoon kept Beetles batters on their toes and took pressure off the Mallards defense.

The Mallards (9-8) clash with the sizzling Thunder Bay Border Cats tomorrow evening at the Duck Pond at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all Mallards games are available online at www.mallardsbaseball.com, and at our office located at 2920 N. Sherman Ave.
