Ryan Zink pitched seven strong innings, scattering only six hits, as he led the Mallards to a 9-3 victory Tuesday in game one of a double-header against the Mankato MoonDogs. After rain postponed Monday?s contest between the two teams, a double-header was scheduled for Tuesday, but rain caused the second game to be called after the first inning. Madison and Mankato have scheduled to make up the game as part of a doubleheader this Friday.

In the first game of the second half, the Mallards set the tone right away, putting six runs on the board in the first inning, and playing sound defense. Centerfielder Greg Thomson and Jay Johnson highlighted a good all around offensive attack for the Mallards. Johnson was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with two RBIs. Thomson was a nearly perfect 3-for-4, scoring two runs. Doug Beck also added two RBI for Madison.

Zink (3-2) struck out seven, and limited the MoonDogs to three runs, and the Mallards played error-free baseball.

Madison (1-0) continues their road trip as they square off with the La Crosse Loggers tonight. The Mallards return to face La Crosse on Thursday, July 8th at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all Mallards home games are available online at www.mallardsbaseball.com, and at our ticket office located at 2920 N.
