Coming off a 1-0 defeat in his last start, Ryan Zink needed run support. On Sunday, that support came in bunches, as the Mallard offense pounded out 18 hits, scoring eight runs en route to helping Zink defeat the Thunder Bay Border Cats 8-0. Zink improved his record to 4-3, pitching seven shutout innings to lower his season ERA to 1.97. The Madison LaFollette graduate scattered five hits while striking out eight and walking only one. Cody Hall and D.J. Roshone each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Mallards to aid in improving their record to 8-3 in the second half.

Jared Johnson had a big night for the Mallards, going 3-3, including his first home run of the season. On the afternoon Johnson scored twice and knocked in two runs for the Ducks. Chad Frk, Jeff Bieker, and John Martin each had three hits and an RBI while Jay Johnson and Abe Aguirre each recorded two hits.

The Mallards continue their six-game road-trip tomorrow evening in Thunder Bay, as they will attempt to sweep the Border Cats. The Ducks then travel to Wausau to take on the Woodchucks in a two game set before returning to Madison to play four games at home. The next Mallards home game is Thursday, July 22 at 7:05 PM against the first-place Waterloo Bucks. Tickets for every remaining Mallards home game are available online at www.mallardsbaseball.com, and at our office located at Warner Park.
