With only one game left to play before making a run at a Northwoods League Championship, the Madison Mallards defeated the Alexandria Beetles 3-1 Sunday in Alexandria. Six Mallard pitchers combined to allow only one run and eight hits. Jake Eiler started the game for the Mallards, pitching four innings of scoreless baseball. Tony Korson pitched the fifth inning, improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Zach Peterson, Doug Beck, and Daryl Maday combined to pitch the sixth through eighth innings before allowing Matt Petty to slam the door on the Beetles, picking up his eighth save.

All-star outfielders Ryan Rogowski and Jay Johnson each knocked in a run for the Mallards who improved their league best record to 24-8 in the second half and 42-21 overall. John Martin led the Ducks offensivly, going 3-4 with a run scored.

Tomorrow marks the final regular season game as the Ducks take on the Beetles at 7:05 in Alexandria. Tuesday the playoff push begins at Warner Park as the Mallards take on the first-half champion La Crosse Loggers at 7:05 PM. Reserved tickets cost seven dollars, bleacher reserved tickets cost six dollars and fifty cents, and general admission tickets cost six dollars. Playoff tickets are refundable.
