Every Monday leading up to the season opener on June 1st, the Mallards web site will provide an update on the 2005 roster. Of the 16 players returning for the 2005 season, several Mallards have started out strong this spring during their collegiate seasons. Here is updated statistics on five returning Mallards standouts.
OF/1B Jeff Bieker had three home runs and seven RBI in Fort Hays State?s 13-2 win over Kansas Newman University. Bieker is batting .395 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI in 23 games this season.
OF Ryan Rogowski has started all 15 games for Illinois this season and is hitting .410 with 15 runs and seven RBI. He was four for five with four runs and two RBI in the Fighting Illini?s 16-2 win over Cornell on Friday.
C Nate Trumm has three home runs and is leading Northern Iowa with a .415 batting average this spring. Trumm has 16 runs and 15 RBI in 15 games.
RHP D.J. Roshone is 0-1 with a 1.17 ERA in seven appearances at Southwest Missouri State. Roshone has recorded one save and 16 strikeouts in 15.1 innings of work.
RHP Matt Petty is 1-1 with a 0.66 ERA in 11 appearances at Emporia State. Petty has struck out 20 batters in 13.2 innings.
The 2004 Northwoods League Champion Madison Mallards open the 2005 season on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 7:05 p.m. against the Mankato MoonDogs. Group and season tickets are on sale now. Single-game tickets go on sale April 30.
