While the Madison Mallards are off to a 4-1 start to the 2005 season, several team members were busy finishing up their college seasons in the NCAA Tournament this past weekend.

Junior Will Vogl went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in St. John?s 5-3 victory over Virginia in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Red Storm fell to Oregon State in the Regional final Sunday, finishing the season with a school record 41 victories. Vogl finished the season hitting .258 with six home runs and 40 RBI.

Sophomore Mike Dury pitched two strong innings for Notre Dame in the Irish?s 7-4 win over Stetson Saturday. He picked up his second save of the season, yielding no runs and allowing just two hits while striking out three. Dury also went 1-for-1 with a run as Notre Dame was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament 23-3 Sunday against Florida.

Sophomore pitchers Ryan Zink and Zach Peterson each took the mound for UIC as the Flames fell to Nebraska and North Carolina State respectively in their NCAA Regional. Zink threw 5 1/3 innings against Nebraska in the opening round of the tournament, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs. Peterson threw 4 2/3 innings in the Flames 9-7 loss to N.C. State, giving up three earned runs while striking out one.

The Mallards improved to 4-1 Sunday with a 7-3 victory over the Brainerd Blue Thunder. The two teams are back in action tonight at 7:05 p.m. in the series finale. The Mallards return home Wednesday to take on the Eau Claire Express at 7:05 p.m. to start a six game home stand.
