For the first time in Northwoods League history, the Thunder Bay Border Cats earned a series sweep over the Madison Mallards with a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon at the Duck Pond behind the dominant pitching performance of Jon Mueller.

Mueller, a 16th round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs in this year?s MLB amateur draft, pitched eight strong innings, allowing only four hits while striking out seven without allowing an earned run.

The Mallards held a 1-0 lead until the sixth, benefiting from a first inning RBI single from Kris Rochelle. In the sixth the Border Cats broke through with four runs on five base hits.

Randy Molina and Mike Rohde were the only Mallards other than Rochelle to record a hit off Mueller. Molina was two-for-four and Rohde was one-for-four.

The Mallards (12-6) now take to the road for a four-game road trip beginning tomorrow night in La Crosse in a battle for first place. Adam Mills is set to take the mound for the Mallards, who are now losers of three straight after winning six in a row. The Mallards next home game is Friday, June 24th at 7:05 p.m. against the Rochester Honkers.
