For a player who has only gone deep once thus far in 2005 Northwoods League play, one wouldn?t expect the offensive display Mike Rohde put on during the first day of the 2005 NWL All-Star game festivities.

The Mallards all-star topped all competitors, smashing six home runs in the first round of the home run derby. Unfortunately for Rohde, he didn?t make it past the second round, hitting only one home run in round two. Tommy Giles of the St. Cloud River Bats took home the Derby Crown, defeating Allen Craig of the hosting Alexandria Beetles, one home run to zero in the fourth and final round.

The Broofield, Wic. native is having a banner season in 2005 for the Mallards, hitting .306 with 18 RBI and 19 runs scored.

Rohde and the rest of the Mallards all-stars take the field Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. in Alexandria. The game can be heard on www.mallardsbaseball.com, with pre-game festivities beginning at 6:15 p.m.

In addition to Rohde, Mallards pitchers J.J. Hollenbeck, Jake Hansen and Adam Mills along with outfielder Ryan Rogowski were the others selected to represent the NWL South Division. After taking home the NWL South Division title, the Mallards coaching staff earned the right to coach the South Division in Wednesday?s game.
