This past weekend a number of collegiate baseball teams started their first action against conference foes. Again, the Mallards had all of their returning players in action for their respective teams. Be sure to check out the rosters link on our home page to follow the players and their teams. Here are some of the stand out performances this past weekend.
Right-handed pitcher Mike Creevy (2-3) made his sixth start for Xavier on Friday night. He threw his second complete game of the season, allowing no runs while striking out seven. Creevy ended up winning the game 1-0 in the Musketeers first conference game of the year against Rhode Island.
Fellow returning right-handed pitcher Adam Mills (3-1) made his seventh start of the season for UNC-Charlotte on Friday night. He went 8 2/3 innings, allowing no runs while striking out nine. Mills ended up getting a no decision and the 49ers eventually won the game 1-0 in 11 innings over George Washington.
Mill?s teammate Kris Rochelle had a solid weekend for the 49ers as well. In three games Rochelle went four for 11 with two runs, two RBI and two walks. Their contributions helped UNC-Charlotte to a three game series sweep over George Washington and an 18-7 record overall.
Infielder Randy Molina played in a couple games for Stanford this past weekend. He went a combined two for four with two runs and three walks. The 17th ranked Stanford Cardinal, with a 12-9 overall record, look to turn things around next weekend as they play host to USC.
