The Madison Mallards have signed three outfielders for the upcoming season. Spencer Steedley (UNC-Charlotte), Tommy Lentz (Winthrop) and Ryan Basham (Michigan State) will be roaming the outfield at the Duck Pond for the first time this summer. The trio joins returning outfielders Jordan Comadena and Danny Dressman on the 2006 roster.

Steedley is a 6?1?, 200 pound junior from Granite Quarry, North Carolina. This spring at UNC-Charlotte he is hitting .379 and leads the 49ers in doubles (12), home runs (9), RBI (42), total bases (88) and slugging (.710). Steedley has appeared in 34 games for UNC-Charlotte, including one start on the mound. In his lone pitching appearance of the season Steedley allowed one run and three hits in four innings of work against North Carolina, which was ranked sixth in the nation at the time.

Lentz has started all 36 games for Winthrop, which is 26-10. The 6?0? junior is hitting .409 this spring with 33 runs and 23 RBI. The Mauldin, South Carolina native will be spending his first season in the Northwoods League after playing in the Coastal Plain League (2004) and the Cape Cod League (2005).

Basham comes to the Mallards after being named the 2005 Central Illinois Collegiate League MVP winner during the summer of 2005. He was a Baseball America 2006 Pre-season All-Big Ten selection and was named second team Summer Baseball All-American by the same publication in 2005. Basham is currently hitting .340 and leads the Spartans with 26 RBI.
