With the college baseball season winding down that means the Mallards season is right around the corner! The Mallards had all of their returning players in action for their respective teams this past weekend. Also, the soon-to-be first year Mallard players were making fine contributions as well. Be sure to check out the roster link on our home page to follow the players and their teams. Here are some of the stand out performances from this past weekend.
Outfielder Ryan Basham started all four games for Michigan State over the weekend. He went eight for 15 with three RBI, two runs and a walk. Basham has started and played in 45 of the 46 games for the Spartans this season. He is leading the Spartans with a .392 batting average.
Outfielder Tommy Lentz started all three games for the 30th ranked Winthrop Eagles over the weekend. He went seven for 15 with five RBI and scored four runs. Lentz is hitting .414 and has started all 49 games for Winthrop. The Eagles will travel to North Carolina on Wednesday to face the top ranked Tar Heels.
Outfielder Spencer Steedley started in all three games for UNC-Charlotte over the weekend. He went four for 13 with three RBI, scored one run and walked three times. Steedley is hitting .347 for Charlotte, which has an overall record of 29-17-1.
Steedley?s teammate Kris Rochelle had a solid weekend for the 49ers as well. Rochelle caught all three games and went four for 10 with two RBI and a run scored. Charlotte will travel to Pittsburgh next weekend to play three against Duquesne.
Infielder Mike Rohde started in all four games for Illinois over the weekend. He went a combined five for 13 with four runs, an RBI and three walks. Rohde is currently hitting .322 and has played in all 47 games for the Fighting Illini.
