Famous Footwear and the Madison Mallards are pleased to announce that outfielder Ryan Basham is the first ?Famous Footwear Mallards Player of the Week? for 2006.

Basham had three hits in seven at bats in two games for Madison. One of the hits was a double. He knocked in the two runs the Mallards scored in the series against the Thunder Bay Border Cats. Unfortunately, the Mallards lost both games.

?We?ve been hitting the ball hard (against Thunder Bay), but couldn?t find holes,? said Basham. ?We just need to keep swinging and we?ll find the holes.?

Basham was a first team All-Big Ten selection at Michigan State this past spring. He ranked in the conference?s top ten in nearly every offensive category. The Spartans season ended early, so Basham had two weeks away from live pitching. ?I kept working out. Nothing can simulate live pitching, though.?

As a junior, Basham is draft eligible and he has impressed some major league scouts. He isn?t looking to far ahead, however.

?We have to play here today. I?m not really worried about that (the MLB draft) right now. We?ll see what happens when it gets here.?
