After a rainout last night (6-9-06) the Madison Mallards and Brainerd Blue Thunder will play a double header tonight in Brainerd, MN.

The games will be both be scheduled for seven innings. Brian Smith will start the first game for Madison. He comes into the game with no decisions, and has given up no runs, after one start from the mound. In the start, he went for seven innings while striking out four, walking one and scattering four hits. He has also seen time at first base and in the outfield.

After winning the team’s third game straight Thursday night, 7-2 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks, the Mallards, now with a 5-3 record, will be playing for a strong start to a long road trip.

Tonight, the Mallards will face the 4-4 Blue Thunder for the first time this season. Last year, the Mallards went 3-1 against Brainerd, a team that finished with a 29-38 record and ninth in the Northwoods League 2005 composite standings.

Over the next seven days, the Mallards will have six games against three different teams. Following two games against Brainerd, tonight, the Mallards will find themselves in two rematch series.

First, after a Sunday off day, the Ducks square off against Eau Claire on Monday, June 12, and Tuesday, June 13, and then will play two more games against Wisconsin before returning home to battle the Duluth Huskies.
