Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Stephen King and now ? you.

Throwing out the ceremonial first pitch is a classic baseball tradition. Celebrities and those who have done great works are often allowed to take the mound and fire a strike ? or some sort of pitch ? before thousands of onlookers.

Mallards fans, get ready. Break out the glove and start practicing your best fastball, because on Sunday, August 6, the first 5,000 Mallards fans will be recognized for their loyalty to the organization by getting to participate in the World?s Largest First Pitch.

Fans are invited to go on the field to participate in the ceremonial first pitch event as the Mallards attempt to break the record they once held. Mallards fans took the record last year, with 2,052, but then two weeks later, the Brevard County Manatees in Florida surpassed the Madison mark as 4,218 of their fans came out to pitch.

American Family Insurance will provide American Family Baseballs ? to be thrown in the first pitch event ? to the first 5,000 fans. All fans will additionally receive a Mallards team poster, courtesy of Verlo Mattress Factory.

August 6 will be an action-packed day and night at the Duck Pond, and not just because of the first pitch event. The game is at 6:05 p.m., but the gates will be opening at noon for the World?s Largest First Pitch.

Also, come to hear live music and eat ballpark fare with the food specials to be offered.

Things could get a little wild as Members of the Henry Vilas Zoo Education Department are to provide EdZOOcation about all sorts of critters.

Other activities will be available, as well. Kids can grapple their way up a climbing wall, and the bounce houses and speed pitches will be free until 5 p.m.

Also, a baseball game against the Wisconsin Woodchucks is taking place.
