The Madison Mallards picked up its first road win of the season in a 5-3 victory versus the La Crosse Loggers Wednesday night at Copeland Park. Sophomore pitcher Nick Kirk started the game and threw seven scoreless innings, extending his league-leading scoreless streak to 13, only allowing two hits in the effort. Junior Ryan Zink, a member of the 2004 Mallards, relieved Kirk in the eighth and struck out two for the one-inning hold. With the game scoreless in the seventh inning, the Mallards exploded for four runs that included an RBI single by red-hot Junior Daniel Webb. Captain Jordan Comadena (pictured), who will be featured in tonight’s Northwoods Weekly show on ESPNU at 8 p.m. drove in a run as well. The team concludes a two-game set with the Loggers this evening at 7:05 p.m. before heading back to the Duck Pond on Friday for a three-game series.
