The Madison Mallards are excited to announce two players have been selected to next week’s 2007 Northwoods League All-Star game in Mankato, Min. Representing the team for the South Division is sophomore catcher Eric Nielsen and junior pitcher Bubba O’Donnell. Each player’s first-half accomplishments are listed below.
Eric Nielsen, So., C, Purdue. After starting the season slowly, Nielson caught fire the last two weeks of June, and culminated an impressive .346 batting average for the month (18 for 52). He finishes the first-half with a team second-best .318 average and three doubles. When given the opportunity to play, Nielsen has shown the propensity to flourish and has become one of the more consistent Mallards hitters at the plate.

Bubba O’Donnell, Jr., RHP, High Point University. O’Donnell brings eight saves and a 3.55 ERA to the All-Star gala. A 2006 Coastal Plain League All-Star, he has a 2.33 ERA in 15 relief appearances and is holding opponents to a .209 batting average. The eccentric closer will be an integral part of the team’s second-half success if the team is to win the South Division and make the playoffs for a fifth consecutive year.
