The Mallards are the hottest team in the Northwoods League South Division, as they’ve won their fourth-straight game to rise, once again, in the division standings. In a span of a week, Madison has improved from last to a tie in the fourth spot, behind Wisconsin, Eau Claire and Green Bay.
The latest win came in La Crosse in comeback fashion. Down 2-1 after two innings played, the Mallards went wild in the fourth, driving in four runs to take a 5-2 advantage. Evan LeBlanc led off with a hit-by-pitch, but it appear he would be stranded in scoring position after the Loggers recorded two outs. That was not the case, however, as Russell Harben produced an RBI basehit. Harben advanced to second on a wild pitch and was driven in by Ryan Tinkoff (pictured) on an RBI-double. Madison really got things going, as Adam Pasono and Jordan Comadena also produced RBI hits, including Pasono’s double.
Despite the Mallards letting the lead go to La Crosse’s possession, Harben stepped in during the seventh to knock in Bobby Hubbard and LeBlanc to start a three-run inning.
Bubba O’Donnell came in for his second consecutive save in the ninth with a 1-2-3 performance.
The teams remain in La Crosse for another game scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Sunday.
